Prison Statistics

According to the United States Department of Justice in 2005 the US has the highest documented incarceration rate in the world with over 700 persons per 100,000 in prison or jail. In 2008 The Pew Center released the report "One in 100: Behind Bars in America" which indicates that more than 1 in 100 adults are incarcerated in the United States. We have 5% of the world's population and nearly 25% of the world's prison population.  I hope you see something wrong with that.

Compare that to England and Wales, which have 148 persons imprisoned per 100,000 residents; Norway was 66 inmates per 100,000 and the rate in New Zealand was 186 per 100,000. More than 3 times the number of incarcerated anywhere else in the world.

Mr. Wayne Johnson. is a professional presenter, facilitator, and narrator who excels at presenting information using a variety of techniques and formats such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos and lectures. SCLS gets letter of intent from first facility.

SCLS has received its first "letter of intent" to begin the installation of our program from Sheriff Dave W. Hofmeier of Sheridan, Wyoming.

Our DIrector of Grant Administration, Harold Mullholand, made the trip representing Second Chance to Wyoming to meet with Sheriff Hofmeier in August.  A few days after the meeting the Sheriff informed Harold that he had discussed it with Lt. Garrett, head of the detention center and they agree that we must do what we can to help people so they are not returning to jail and prison.

The Sheridan County Detention Center recently underwent major renovations more than doubling capacity and expanding services to include a full time nursing staff, a kitchen that is responsible for the preparation of all inmate meals, and the implementation of security measures to enhance the safety for inmates and detention officers alike.
